SOMETHING OLD, NEW, BORROWED AND BLUE

The idea of a Bride having something old, new, borrowed and blue on her wedding day goes back to Victorian times, with each item having its own sentimental meaning. 

• The ‘old’ item represents the brides continuing love for her family. 
• The ‘new’ item represents future happiness for the couple. 
• The ‘borrowed’ item would traditionally come from a happily married woman, representing future marital happiness, and that friends and family will be there to support the couple where needed. 
• The ‘blue’ item represents the true blue value of fidelity of love. 

This tradition is still followed nowadays, with many brides being more and more creative with the items they use. Below are some modern ideas for this sentiment.

‘Borrowed’ 

• Fabric from a relatives clothing or wedding dress
• Wedding venue, for example at a family farm

• Cake topper or knife from your parents’ wedding

‘Blue’
