Tell us about yourself and your business.

My name is Alice and I am the Owner of and Florist at From the Wild Floristry and Botanical Design. 

I never quite knew what I wanted to do as a career when I was younger and drifted into a job in media and marketing when leaving college which I stayed in for 18 years. I had a great experience and learned a lot through working in this field, although I never really felt fulfilled; I always wanted to be doing something more creative. I attended a wreath workshop at a friends home and loved it so much that I knew I’d found my calling! From The Wild was born a few years after this, after studying at The Academy of Floral Art and getting some experience under my belt. I never imagined how the business would grow and how many amazing events we would get to work on!

What are your top tips to a couple for choosing a florist for their wedding?

Visit their Instagram profile - make sure you like the overall style of most of their images, as florists are often following a clients brief and interpreting it. All florists will usually have an individual style that comes through once you look at multiple pictures.

Once you have picked 2 or 3 florists you really like, reach out and take a look at their booking process. Choose a florist who you think you will get along with and who will understand your vision after chatting with them. When choosing your florals, if you don’t have an endless budget, it’s best to invest in one or two statement pieces that can be repurposed around your venue, rather than spreading a budget too thinly - think about what is most important to you. It's always really helpful to a florist when people are open and honest about their budgets. Try and trust the process and allow your florist to work their magic, rather than being over prescriptive or rigid with flower choices and exact colour ways - it usually means a better result!

What are the most popular wedding flowers for each season?

• Autumn - Dried Braken, Berries and Autumn Leaves

What are the pros and cons of fresh wedding flowers?

Pros - Fresh wedding flowers smell gorgeous, and you can create a unique and seasonal look. They may only last for a fleeting moment but that somehow makes it more special 

Cons - Free wedding flowers are a perishable product and sometimes you may be unable to get your favourite flower at that time of year.

What are the pros and cons of artificial wedding flowers?

Pros - You can keep artificial wedding flowers forever. They can be made in advance of the wedding day, and they are available in a variety of colours 

Cons - Sometimes article wedding flowers are not high quality and can look a little plastic. Also, the designs are often not unique to your social day if you are hiring in a whole design.

What are the pros and cons of dried wedding flowers?

Pros - Dried wedding flowers can last up to three years and can also be made in advance of your wedding day.

Cons - If you are using preserved dried wedding flowers, they can sometimes leak dye. Also the colours of dried wedding flowers are sometimes not as vibrant as a fresh flower. 

Tell us about your favourite client wedding.

There are too many favourites, however we love working on unusual briefs which give us the chance to flex our creativity. Clients that put their trust in us usually get the best results and are also the most fun for us to work on. We love getting creative and making your dreams come true.
