ACCESSORIES: CLAIRE AUSTIN ENGLAND

Tell us about yourself and what you do.

I am an award winning accessories designer. I hand-make bespoke bridal hair headpieces and statement earrings from my studio by the sea in Devon. My hand crafted clay flowers are especially popular amongst my brides.         I focus on style and sustainability, from stand-out statement crowns to ethereal and elegant hair vines and pins.

What inspired you to be involved in this campaign shoot?

The concept of the shoot really captured my attention. Firstly, to get so many amazingly talented female led businesses in a room sounded like a fun day. Secondly, to have such a plethora of different models, each with something fabulous to offer. It was not an opportunity I wanted to turn down!

What is your favourite thing about working in the wedding industry?

Being able to create something for a bride with the goal of making her feel and look amazing on her wedding day is the reason I do this work. The thought of designing such a unique accessory that they can keep forever, or even pass down through the generations as a family heirloom, is very special to me. I feel very lucky to work with such wonderful brides.

What is your proudest achievement?

Winning Best Accessories at the South West Wedding Awards three years in a row was pretty special! Knowing that so many couples had left me such lovely feedback. Seeing my headpieces on the catwalk for the first time at London Bridal Week was also an invigorating experience!

Which women inspire you the most and why?

The women who inspire me the most are those that embody beauty inside and out, strength and inclusivity. This campaign allowed women from all different backgrounds to celebrate all of us, and I was inspired by the courage and confidence displayed by every participant. They shattered stereotypes and we celebrated their unique beauty.

This year’s International Women’s Day 2024 theme is #InspireInclusion. What does this mean to you?

Showing the power of inclusivity, embracing individuality and empowering women to share their stories and supporting them whilst doing so.

I was absolutely honoured to be asked to be a part of the campaign shoot celebrating International Women's Day. It was such a fun day with a venue full of fantastic women. Everyone was so supportive and lifted each other up. I went home with a very big smile on my face and a spring in my step!
